What Weight Loss Surgery Procedures Do You Offer At BodyFree in Sydney?
BodyFree Weight Loss Clinic offers a number of weight loss surgery procedures including Gastric Sleeve (Sleeve Gastrectomy), Single Loop Gastric Bypass (Omega Loop Gastric Bypass, Mini Gastric Bypass), Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, SADI-S and Revision Bariatric Surgery. All of these procedures are performed laparoscopically (via keyhole incisions) resulting in quicker healing time and shorter hospital admissions.
Our clinic does not offer endoscopic weight loss surgery procedures, such as the Gastric Ballon, however we have included some general information about these options. Endoscopic procedures generally offer short term weight loss outcomes without any medium to long term results shown.
In addition, while we do offer a surgical procedure to remove Gastric Bands (Lap Bands), with or without revising to a Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass, we do not provide surgery to place them into the body. Our bariatric surgeons have found that patients who have had a Gastric Band placed encounter more post operative concerns and problems and also have inconsistent results when compared to the newer weight loss surgery procedures (Gastric Sleeve, Gastric Bypass).
Our Sydney based obesity clinic offers surgery to patients throughout Australia by providing consults in our Newtown clinic or via Telehealth video consults for patients who are unable to see us in person. Surgery is performed at one of three centrally located private hospitals in Sydney.
What Weight Loss Surgery Procedure Is Right For Me?
Deciding which surgery option would be best for you will require consultation with one of our expert Bariatric Surgeon, Dr David Joseph. There are many factors that will be considered when recommending which of the weight loss surgery procedures is best for you. The surgeon will look at BMI (body mass index) as a first step, and then also consider health concerns or diagnosed co-morbidities such as diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnoea, cholesterol issues, joint pain, reflux issues (GORD) and for female patients – Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Each patient who comes to see us is treated as an individual with recommendations always based on that individual patient’s needs.
Depending on which surgical procedure is recommended, Weight Loss Surgery works by either restriction of food intake (Gastric Sleeve) or a combination of restriction and malabsorption of nutrients (Single Loop Gastric Bypass, Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, SADI). Your surgeon will provide further information about this during your consult, or you can find more details by clicking on the procedures below to be directed to more information.
Through Bariatric Surgery, our team have had the opportunity to see our patients improve their lives using the tools that weight loss surgery procedures provide. Following surgery patients are able to address their weight and health concerns and finally feel free of the kilos they feel have held them back from living the life they always wanted.[/vc_column_text]
Available Weight Loss Surgery Procedures
Several types of bariatric surgery procedures are available to help patients achieve significant and sustained weight loss. Each procedure works in a slightly different way and may be recommended depending on a patient’s BMI, medical history and weight loss goals.
At BodyFree, our bariatric surgeon (Dr David Joseph) performs a range of modern weight loss procedures designed to support long-term health and weight management.
Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Gastric Sleeve Surgery (Sleeve Gastrectomy) is one of the most commonly performed bariatric procedures worldwide. The surgery removes around 75–80% of the stomach, creating a smaller sleeve-shaped stomach that limits food intake and reduces hunger hormones.
This procedure provides effective long-term weight loss and metabolic improvement for many patients.

Single Loop Gastric Bypass
Single Loop Gastric Bypass (also known as Mini Gastric Bypass or Omega Loop Gastric Bypass) combines stomach restriction with a bypass of part of the small intestine, helping reduce calorie absorption while limiting food intake.
This procedure may be recommended for patients who require greater weight loss or improved metabolic outcomes.

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is a well-established bariatric procedure that creates a small stomach pouch and reroutes part of the small intestine. This changes how food is digested and absorbed, helping support significant weight loss and improvements in obesity-related health conditions.

SADI-S Surgery
SADI-S (Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve) is a more complex bariatric procedure that combines a sleeve gastrectomy with intestinal bypass to achieve powerful metabolic effects.
It may be recommended for patients with severe obesity or metabolic disease.
Revision Bariatric Surgery
Revision Bariatric Surgery may be recommended for patients who have previously undergone weight loss surgery but have experienced weight regain, complications or insufficient weight loss.
Revision procedures may convert one bariatric procedure to another to improve long-term outcomes.
