He also manages common benign conditions using the most advanced laparoscopic techniques (keyhole surgery), including laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, and laparoscopic inguinal and incisional hernia repair.
Dr David Joseph studied Medicine at the University of Sydney and was awarded Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 1996. He undertook training in General Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred and Concord Hospitals in Sydney, Australia and passed the Fellowship Examination of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2002, and was awarded FRACS in 2004. He then pursued further training in Surgical Oncology through 2004, and worked as The Surgical Superintendent at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 2005.
During this period he was able to pursue his interest and gain further training in complex Hepatobiliary Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. A fellowship in Liver Transplantation at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital was undertaken in 2006 with appointment as a Staff Specialist Surgeon in the latter half of the same year. This was continued until further advanced training was commenced overseas in July 2007 with a Fellowship in Transplantation Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. This high volume world renowned centre enabled further training in complex hepatobiliary surgery, living donor liver transplantation, and other aspects of transplantation surgery. Experience was also gained in advanced Bariatric Surgery during this period at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
After completing his fellowship, Dr David Joseph was appointed as a Visiting Medical Officer at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney in November 2008 where he currently works as an Upper Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary, and Transplant Surgeon. In April 2010 he was also appointed as a Visiting Medical Officer at Concord Repatriation General Hospital, where he works as an Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon. He has also been a Visiting Medical Officer surgeon at the Mater Hospital in North Sydney since 2006, and was the Head of Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery there from 2013-2020.
